Can You Hear Me Now?
Matthew 13:9, "He who has ears to hear, let him hear!"
Matthew 13:10-15, Hebrews 3:15
In the parable of the sower in Matthew 13 Jesus made the statement, "He who has ears to hear, let him hear?"
When the disciples asked why he spoke to the multitudes in parables, he said, "I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. He then went on to say that in them (the multitudes), the prophecy of Isaiah was fulfilled which says,"Hearing you will hear and shall not understand. And seeing you will see and not perceive; For the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing; and their eyes they have closed, lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, So that I should heal them." Mat. 13:13-15 NKJ
There is a direct correlation between our heart and our ears, or more specifically our heart and our ability to hear.
Jesus said that the hearts of the people had grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing and their eyes they have closed.
There has been much information about the importance of taking proper care of our heart. Not only is heart disease a killer in the natural realm but you can have spiritual heart disease and the ramifications of this are eternal in scope.
The scary thing is that we can be virtually unaware that we are sick. This 'silent killer' can be undetected because it happens gradually. It is deceptive because we can be hearing physically but the words we are hearing may not be penetrating our heart.
What would be the symptom or sign of this heart condition? Probably the number one indicator of this condition would be an indifference to the Word of God. Mental assent is not faith. Mental agreement does not equal obedience.
Most mothers know that a child's hearing can be jeopardized by an untreated ear infection. In the same way our heart can be hardened to such a degree that our ability to hear (perceive truth) is severely compromised.
".Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, So that I should heal them." Mat 13:15b
The Word of God always demands a response. To hear and not "turn," to hear and not change as to make the necessary adjustment, also known as obey, is to demonstrate dullness of hearing and hardness of heart.
Therefore, "Today, if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion," but rather let us turn and be healed.
