Colossians 1:5-6
Because of the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, of which you heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel. Which has come to you, as it has also in all the world, and is bringing forth fruit, as it is also among you since the day you heard and knew the grace of God in truth.
Paul wrote to the believers in Colosse encouraging them in their faith and declaring the power of the truth which they had heard, the message of the gospel, which message not only reveals truth, but unveils the One who is the personification of truth. He said of himself, I am the way, the truth and the life. From Genesis to Revelation He is there, the central figure of time, all of time. The one whose invasion into time actually defines it by saying there is only one way to delineate historical time, the time before His earthly visitation, B.C., and after, A.D.
Paul said this truth, the reception of it, brings forth fruit. When this truth is experienced, it produces fruit. Fruit benefits people, it nourishes, it has protective antioxidant properties, it is fragrant, it is sweet, it adds value, it strengthens, it produces life in those who receive it.
If we have received the gospel message that Paul was referring to, the pure apostolic gospel, not the popular "gospel" that is preached by motivational speakers, but the gospel of Jesus Christ, we will produce fruit. Remember the fruit of the spirit? If Holy Spirit is in you, you will bear fruit. This is a beautiful thing because the world is full of hungry people. They may not look hungry, but junk food only satisfies temporarily.
Natural fruit that is not eaten will eventually spoil. It had potential, life giving potential that was never realized. Wasted, when so many are hungry. It was meant for nourishment, to bring life, to be shared.
Don't let your fruit fall to the ground and spoil. Lavishly distribute the fruit that is produced by the knowledge of the one who is living in you . . . that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God. (Col 1:10)
Scripture reading: Col 1:1-11
Thank you, Father for the knowledge of Jesus. Let us increase in our knowledge of Him and thus bear much fruit. Amen.
